REJUVENATING TREATMENTS

As we age wrinkles can become a concern for some people.  Rejuvenation of your face can involve reducing the movement of facial muscles and therefore the wrinkles that appear when frowning or smiling.  Selectively reducing the movement of some muscles can also give a lifting, more youthful appearance.  Alternatively wrinkles  can be filled with a gel type filler softening the appearance of lines.

FAQs

WHAT IS BOTULINUM TYPE A?

Botulinum type a is a medicine which has been used safely for many years to rejuvenate the face.  It is chemical toxin which prevents the muscles contracting and therefore eliminates and reduces wrinkles as well as giving a more youthful, refreshed look.

WHEN WILL I SEE A RESULT?

Results become apparent within 48 hours but will continue to improve for up to 2 weeks.

HOW LONG DOES TREATMENT LAST?

Usually results last 3-4 months this depends on the individual, the area injected and the muscle activity.

DOES TREATMENT HURT?

Very fine needles are used in a series of small injections.  Discomfort is minimal and extremely short lived.  The appointment is around 15 minutes and you can return to normal activity immediately.

WHO SHOULD ADMINISTER THIS TREATMENT?

Only qualified, certified individuals should administer this treatment.  This way you can be certain you are treated in a safe environment with high standards of cleanliness, using appropriate products and where there is excellent after care.

WHAT SIDE EFFECTS COULD I EXPERIENCE?

On occasion there can be a little swelling or brushing at the injection site.  Your practitioner will advise if this happens to you.  Some patients report headaches which are manageable with your usual painkillers.  Very rarely if the botulinum toxin migrates to nearby muscles it may give an unwanted muscle relaxation.  This can lead to droop of the eyebrow, eye lid or lip, depending on where the injection site.  The up most care is taken to avoid this by careful injection technique and dosing. My he effects although undesirable are ways temporary.

WHO SHOULD NOT USE BOTULINUM TOXIN TYPE A?

Botulinum toxin is safe for most patients.  In patients with conditions affecting muscle tone and movement should not use botulinum toxin.

WILL I STILL LOOK NATURAL AFTER TREATMENT?

The days of the ' frozen face' are over with most patients wishing a more natural result.  Careful selection of the facial muscles with more superficial injections reduce wrinkles and rejuvenate without total, loss of facial expression.

DERMAL FILLERS

WHAT ARE FILLERS?

Dermal fillers are gel like substances which are injected below the skin to replace areas of volume loss.  As we age the skin can lose volume and this causes lines and defects.  Replacing lost volume reduces the lines and gives a more youthful appearance.  Most fillers are made of hyaluronic acid in a gel matrix.  This is a substance which occurs abundantly and naturally in our bodies.  For this reason it is a very well accepted filler material when injected and side effects are rare.

HOW MUCH FILLER WILL I NEED?

This depends of how much volume is lost and where the filler is injected.  The filler is presented in 1 ml syringes and patient need can be anything between 0.5 ml and 5 ml of filler.

HOW OFTEN WILL I NEED TREATMENT?

Treatments can last between 4- 18 months depending on site injected  and the individual patient.

IS TREATMENT PAINFUL?

Discomfort is minimal for this treatment.  Where necessary you will be numbed first using a dental anaesthetic, or a product containing anaesthetic will be used.

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

The most common side effects are a little swelling or bruising at the injection site.  Migration of the filler into nearby blood vessels is a very rare side effect, as well as the formation of lumps or nodules some time after filler injections.  Your clinician will discuss these in more detail at consultation.
